IFB announces new CEO

Impact Finance Belgium (IFB) announced the next CEO to lead and scale-up the organisation to the next level.

On 8 October, Steven Serneels, the Chair and Co-Founder of IFB announced Pierre Harkay as the next CEO of IFB. Pierre Harkay is the manager Development and Sustainability of BIO Invest, the Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries. Pierre is a well-known figure in the Belgian impact eco-system and has developed over the years a deep knowledge and understanding of sustainable and impact investing. Pierre will lead and scale-up IFB to the next level.

Pierre is a well-known figure in the Belgian impact eco-system and has developed over the years a deep knowledge and understanding of sustainable and impact investing. He is currently the manager Development and Sustainability of BIO Invest, the Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries, and leads a team of 8 people specialised in Impact Measurement & Management, Sustainability Reporting and Sustainable Advisory Services. Prior to his work at BIO Invest, he was, amongst others, Energy & Climate Advisor at the Federation of Belgian Enterprises (FEB/VBO), Economic Advisor at the British Embassy to Belgium and Economist in the Financial Markets Department of the National Bank of Belgium.

“I am thrilled to join IFB and lead the effort to mobilize finance as a force for good. I look forward to work closely with the IFB team, members, supporters and stakeholders. Impact Finance has an important growth potential in Belgium and I am eager to contribute to IFB’s development in the coming years. I would also like to express my gratitude to Steven and the Board of Directors for their trust” Pierre Harkay.

BIO Invest being a member of IFB and Pierre being an active participant in several IFB events, he already knows and understands our organisation and unique community of members, and will hit the ground running. We are all very excited to work with Pierre and move closer to achieving our goals.

“I join IFB in celebrating the appointment of Pierre Harkay as the new CEO of Impact Finance Belgium, and I wish Pierre all the best. Pierre’s journey to this position is a testament to his commitment to sustainable development, his understanding of the financial sector, and his leadership qualities. BIO Invest is proud to see one of its managers rise to this role.” Joris Totté, CEO BIO Invest.

IFB would like to give our sincerest gratitute to Frederik van Den Bosch, our outgoing CEO. Frederik was appointed as IFB’s first CEO in early 2023. In almost two years, Frederik built a team of 5 people and under his leadership, IFB successfully engaged in various programs, a successful Second Belgian Impact Day and some seminal research projects. He has also gathered a wide range of organisations to join as members of IFB, making the number of IFB members close to 50.

“We are very grateful to Frederik for his enthusiasm and commitment to build an organisation from scratch to what IFB is today. His energy and dedication were instrumental in turning an initiative into a proper organisation. With Pierre coming on board, we feel blessed and confident that IFB can scale to its next level and further promote and implement the ‘impact’ agenda.” Steven Serneels, Chair IFB
